Biological Beekeeping Wallner
This year's focus was on testing the offspring of an F2 queen, as well as the selection of colonies that no longer need to be de-milked.
The progeny test
I carried out this test with five colonies. The parentage: The grandmother of the test colonies has a VRI measurement value of 5.9, the daughter of this queen has a measurement value of 9.5. The question is, what are the measured values of the five daughters of this queen? These five colonies have remained 11 months without any emaciation until the resistance test.

The result of the progeny test
The audit was conducted from July 27 to August 12, 2025.
August 2025
Discussion: The result surprised me in every respect!
The first surprise: The daily mite drop of the first 4 colonies with Ø 4.12 mites per day is low.
The second surprise: This is larger. The average mite drop after mite removal of the 4 best colonies is 44 mites per colony and this after 11 months without any mite removal. These colonies are Varroa resistant.
The third surprise: The daily mite drop of 92 mites and the total mite drop of 2720 mites indicate a relapse (atavism). Overall, according to Mendel, I see a dominant inheritance of this offspring test!
Summary of VRI measured values since 2017

The rating:
The breeding progress is clearly visible in the improvement of the measured values! My breeding colonies are in the group measured value below 10.
The offspring test 2025 with the interesting result inspired me so much that I went on a search to find colonies that I no longer need to emilate.
By observing the Varroa infestation de-mite I have selected colonies that now go into the winter for more than 1 year without any de-mite.
By observing the development of Varroa infestation, each bee colony can be easily and safely selected for Varroa resistance.
