Varroa-resistant licensing in 2023

In the bee year 2022, we created over 100 young peoples in our organic beekeeping company. The breeding peoples for the queens in the young peoples were able to prove a VRI reading of Ø 16.6. These newly formed young peoples were distributed on our outsides.
This year, in the bee year 2023, these young peoples were in special observation on gentleness, honey performance, vitality, etc. However, no observation was made on varroa resistance. Of the 100 young peoples, I have read out 15 peoples in the direction mentioned. These peoples were brought to the home stand after the honey harvest, where the resistance liquor was carried out.
For 2 peoples with the note “Super Bee” I determined the Varroa killer factor before the demiting. In both peoples this was 100%, that is, all mites from the daily mite waste had been killed by the bees. The cause of death of the mites was severed legs and a severed mite lancing apparatus.
3 days before the de-milling of the test peoples, the Ø daily. Mite waste is investigating. The demilding with AS was carried out again as already described.

The results of resistance licensing 2023

All 15 peoples together were able to detect a VRI measured value of Ø 9.1. The bandwidth of the measured values ranged from 4.3 to 16.1.

A review of the selection work since 2017

The breeding progress is measurably documented.

For the first time, therefore, in the bee year 2024, I can only multiply from breeding peoples who are in class 1, i.e. in the index scale of 1-10.

The new breeding goal is now a stabilization of the breeding peoples in class 1. Any improvement in the scale 1 index always means a certain improvement in varroa resistance in our breeding peoples.
